SCUBA FAQ's
(Frequently Asked Questions) |
What gear do I need?
As a minimum, you’ll want to purchase your
own personal dive gear: mask, snorkel, boots
& fins (and a few other items) when you
start in the basic scuba diving course.
How soon can I become a diver?
You’ll be diving in less time than you
think. Typically, you can become a scuba
diver in just 2 weekends!
What’s involved with learning to
dive?
Learning to dive isn’t difficult, but like
any activity worth doing, it requires some
training and practice.
There are three components to scuba
training: Knowledge Development, Confined
Water dives, and Open Water dives.
Where can I dive?
You can dive practically anywhere there’s
water – from a swimming pool to the ocean
and all points in between, including
quarries, lakes, rivers and springs. Living
in Houston, Texas, means you are only 2
hours away from some of the best diving in
the world – the Caribbean Sea!
Is it safe?
Thanks to international certification and
training agencies like PADI (the
Professional Association of Dive
Instructors), scuba diving is one of the
safest recreational activities you can
participate in. The accident rate is
significantly lower than other outdoor
activities like snow skiing, camping, or
bicycling.
How much does it cost?
Compared with getting started in other
popular adventure sports and outdoor
activities,
learning to dive is very affordable.
How do I get started?
One way to start exploring the underwater
world is with a Discover Scuba Experience.
